Table ronde & Projections
à l'Auditorium du Louvre.

27 janvier 2012

» (traduction OBSART)

The Louvre Museum and OBSART | Observatoire du Land Art
are pleased to invite you to this day:

“LAND ART
& CINEMA”
Screenings and Round-table
at the Louvre Auditorium.

January 27, 2012

This initiative of the Louvre Museum is part of the 5th edition of the International Days of Films on Art (JIFA 2012, January 25 - 29), that address—from Parietal Art to street art through Land Art—this year’s theme: “art and place”.

We would like to thank Pascale Raynaud (Head of Film Programming, Louvre Auditorium) and Cecile Brun (Promotion and Development Department) for their invitation to collaborate on this event, an almost unprecedented one since the topic chosen for this round-table has rarely been discussed in France.

An essential meeting point for all those who were unable to travel to Emmen in Holland, on September 17, to attend the world premiere of Robert Smithson’s film that had never left the drawing board, for almost 40 years.

« The shooting of this road movie was a kind of work in progress that did not involve writing a screenplay beforehand. In search of the works of Land Art, three art historians have experimented these sites and tried to report on their impressions in a more poetic way, rather than documentary. From this dérives through the American desert, so they offer a reflexion on history as mapping.» (Fabien Danesi)
« I've also started filming a new, LA-based, art documentary called CRITICAL MASS (working title) which is about a 360-ton boulder that will be (slowly) moved from a Riverside quarry to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art this fall. It's the monolithic centerpiece of an amazing, giant, land-art sculpture by artist Michael Heizer. The film is about the rock, the museum, the city, the artist, and the nature of art itself. » source
